Q:
Where did Mi-Ki's come from?
A: Mi-Kis have
an oriental background originating from breeds such as
Japanese
Chin,
Maltese and the Papillion. While there is a foreign
background, the breed was actually
refined and established in the USA in the last 20 years.
This is a USA defined breed not German.
All pedigrees should be in English and
traceable back to the original foundation stock here in the
USA. If they can't be then they are not a true Mi-Ki.
Q: Can I buy a
Mi-Ki puppy in a pet store?
A: No, never.
Breeders want to place the Mi-Ki puppies they
breed in good homes not any home with the fee. Each rare
Mi-Ki is placed in a loving
perfect home by the breeder. Not all homes are good Mi-Ki
homes. Mi-Kis are
very small and should not be placed in homes with small
children. The Mi-Ki could be
injured by small children.
Q: Are Mi-Kis AKC registered?
A: No, not yet.
There are very few breeders and we are keeping strict
breeding
regulations
to ensure the breed stays
pure. Some day
they may become AKC
registered.
Until
then purebred Mi-Kis can
and should be
registered with:

Q:
Is the Mi-Ki a non-shedding breed?
A: Yes, the Mi-Ki is "non-shedding" because it has hair rather than fur.
The Mi-Ki's
only
grooming
requirements are a weekly combing and a monthly bath.
For show grooming, please see the
Grooming Guide.
Q:
What health problems are associated with the Mi-Ki
breed?
A: The Mi-Ki is a
very healthy breed. To my
knowledge no serious health issues have been reported.
Q: Why are Mi-Ki's
so expensive? $2000. and up
A: As with any
rare purebred dog, prices will be high because there are
relatively
few
breeders, who refuse to breed for
anything except improving the
breed.
Beware
of cheep Mi-Kis, purebred Mi-Kis are all about
the same price. If you don't care if your Mi-Ki is
purebred then please go to your local Humane Society and
adopt a mixed breed dog from them. Only a purebred
Mi-Ki can give you the true wonderful personality of
this fabulous rare breed.
Q: Is the Mi-Ki
"True to Type"?
A: Yes, the Mi-Ki
has been breeding true to type for the last 10
years.
Q: Why is the
head of the Mi-Ki Shaved?
A: It is
required that the long coated Mi-Ki be shaved with a #10
blade for
the conformation
ring as required by the Breed Standard. This is so that the
Judge can more easily
see the shape of the skull.
Please see the
Grooming Guide.
Q: Why are the
feet of the Mi-Ki Shaved?
A: This is also
required by the Breed Standard for the Conformation Ring. I recommend
that the feet of the Mi-Ki be kept shaved for cleanliness
reasons.
Q: Can
you show Mi-Kis?
A:
Yes, you can show them in Rarity's Shows and IABCA Shows.
Recently Mi-Kis
have been
accepted by a German all breed club and may be shown in their
shows
also.
Q: Are Mi-Kis
good with other pets?
A:
Yes, small ones. Mi-Kis can adapt to other small dogs and
cats with ease.
Q: Are
Mi-Kis good with children?
Yes, school
age. Toddlers may injure a Mi-Ki. I don't recommend Mi-Kis in
homes
with
pre-school children.
Q: Are Mi-Kis
yappy?
A:
No most Mi-Kis
are quite calm dogs. They may bark if someone knocks on the
door.
